Mail vom PrimaveraSound-Team:
Hello,
How are you?
On our side, with three weeks to go before the festival, we couldn’t be more excited to have made it this far: we’ve been looking forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary with all of you since we left Parc del Fòrum in June 2019.
So, we feel it’s only right to write to you once again to thank you for your confidence now that our 20th edition is here.
We are also aware of the many changes that have occurred from the moment when we announced Pavement as the first headliner, whilst still at the Fòrum in the middle of the festival in 2019, until today. Some of them have been, we hope, for the better. In other cases, due to situations beyond our control, we know that the changes may have caused some confusion or dissatisfaction. We wanted, therefore, to start by trying to be transparent with you on some of these issues.
There have been, and much to our regret, changes to the line-up. These variations fall within a certain logic considering that the booking of many of these names were closed in 2018, but we know that it is a disappointment and a let-down when it is announced (for us, too).
It upsets us that there are several bands that finally won’t be able to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona - Sant Adrià 2022 for reasons resulting from different changes of plans in their respective careers, some are going through very different moments than they were in 2021 or even in 2020 others have been affected by some post-pandemic restrictions: some bands have split up, others have suffered serious personal problems, some are not contemplating doing tours whereas last year they wanted to, others are subject to the Covid legislation of their countries that would prevent them from continuing with their tours normally if they were to visit Europe....
Just as the changing global scene in recent months has translated into opportunities to bring in new artists and bands, allowing the line-up to be updated with fresh musical appearances, other eventualities have made it impossible for some of them to keep the festival on their schedule. And finding replacements when running against the clock is not only not easy, but also often impossible.
An event of the magnitude of ours is not easy to organise, and booking cycles often start a year and a half in advance. In fact, we are already working to ensure that 2023 will surpass what we consider today, this year’s festival, to be the best line-up in our history.
We also know that there have been doubts about the functioning of Primavera a la Ciutat, a cycle of concerts almost in itself and which gives continuity to a festival that extends over two weekends.
Our aim with these concerts in emblematic venues of the city, some of which are as closely linked to the history of Primavera Sound such as the Poble Espanyol, was to bring music back to its natural habitat and to contribute to the return to normal life in venues and clubs. They have undoubtedly been the main victims of the pandemic and we wanted them to be the protagonists of our return.
The quota of tickets that have been put on sale for these days is destined for the venues, who will receive the full amount of these tickets so that everyone can enjoy, at least to a certain extent, the return of Primavera Sound to the city. Although these measures were announced from the first day, we felt it was right to clarify them to avoid confusion or misunderstandings, as they were taken with the intention of adding something, never the other way round.
With all of this, and when we are about to publish the timetables, which we know is another of the most nerve-wracking moments of the year, we are about to open the gates of the Parc del Fòrum under those now mythical letters.
Thank you for joining us in what will undoubtedly be the most emotional, eagerly awaited, and exciting edition of our lives.
And thank you for your patience, your understanding and your faith: we told you that we "can’t do without you" and well, we have been able to do it... only with you.
We are not afraid to repeat ourselves: thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The Primavera Sound team
